For regional downscaling and process studies we use the Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF) is developed by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, USA.
The application range from hurricane studies (Kilic et al. 2013) to downscaling extreme wind over Switzerland (Gomez-Navarro et al. 2015, Stucki et al. in press). Recently so-called Vb cyclones are a focal point of this model.
